“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."

– Winnie The Pooh.

Clover

Clover came to WoodHaven in May 2022. She was living with 10 other llama and an ancient donkey. Her owner had been in ill health and unable to care for them. Because of Clover’s extreme age, she lived with the ‘old ladies’ and was kept as comfortable as possible. Clover was very thin, and we worked very hard to put some weight on her frame and keeper comfortable. She also suffered from age related arthritis. Clover was loved and kept comfortable for the last few months of her life. We miss Clover very much.

Laverne

We wish local farm stores would not sell cute chicks…the impulse to buy chicks can quickly turn into OH NO, when the chicks grow into adult birds that eat and poop A LOT. Laverne and Shirley came to WoodHaven when their owners realized they didn’t have the space to properly care for them. Laverne was quite the talker and can be very aggressive when things don’t go her way. She loved taking dust baths in the mulch, eating bugs, and pulling out flowers from their planters. Sadly, Laverne is no longer with us.

Tank

Tank came to Susan after he was dropped on his head as a 4 week old puppy. He had swelling and trauma, and spent a lot of time living at the emergency vet clinic. When he was ready to be released, his original owners didn’t want to pay the bill. Poor Tank lived at the clinic for almost 8 months before Susan adopted him. He is a house hippo, couch potato, foot warmer, and all around goober. Moose is his very best friend in the world. He will be missed greatly.

Millie

One night WoodHaven Rescue received a frantic call about a very sick, very skinny, very feral and VERY pregnant cat that had gotten into a garage. Oh, and the caller stated that the cat’s head was on crooked! Named Millie because she was found in Saw Mill Run, we worked to catch her to provide the urgent vet care she needed. Millie did NOT want to be confined, and broke out of every crate/cage/box we could find. Ultimately, using welding gloves, we caught and put in back seat of the truck, and were worried how she would react. She looked at us, and crawled up and SAT on the console for the ride home. I think she knew she was being saved. The Vet warned of kitten loss due to her condition, but Millie gave birth to 6 healthy kittens. All were spayed/neutered/vaccinated and have amazing homes. Millie still has feral moments, but those tend to disappear when you open canned cat food. Two of her kittens, Ape and Alpha, still reside at WoodHaven Rescue Farm, and they all work diligently to keep the barn rodent and pest free. And that crooked head? Yes, Millie did have a very tilted/crooked head. Most likely she was clipped by a car at a young age and had ear and skull damage. After surgery to increase the ear opening so debris could escape, Millie stopped getting the debilitating ear infections. Her tilt improved, but she definitely still has a slightly crooked head. We love her for her imperfection.

Black Beauty

Feral trapped and fixed petite cat who tried to fit in as indoor pet, but after bites and clawing owner, is much happier being outdoors again. She’s skittish, but will come for head rubs if you are patient, quiet and calm. She loves napping in the hay after a long night mousing around.
