Monica
Monica, Rachel and Phoebe came to WoodHaven as their second rescue. They were the first llama to arrive at WoodHaven Rescue. Originally part of a large group rescued from a breeding operation in Ohio, these ladies were retired in what was thought to be their final home after they were first rescued. When it was discovered that the llama ladies had no shelter, they were moved to WoodHaven as their final home. Sadly Rachel passed away due to old age and seizures, but the other two ‘Friends’ are enjoying their golden years safely at WoodHaven. Paperwork shows Monica being born in 1993 and Phoebe in 1998, which makes these ladies OLD! Average life expectancy for llama is 15 years, but they can live to be 20 or older. We watch them closely to make sure they are getting proper nutrition, stay warm in the winter with blankets if necessary, and stay cool in the summer by shearing and offering cool water in which to stand.

Nightmare

Champagne
Nightmare and Champagne arrived in June 2022. These elderly llamas are BELOVED pets and have had long careers as 4H animals. However, they were ready for retirement. The younger llama in their old herd could be bossy and the owners of these two sweethearts preferred they live out their lives among other elderly llama. (No llama drama with all of our old gang!) When people visit WoodHaven Rescue, Nightmare and Champagne absolutely love getting extra love and attention. They have settled in nicely with the other seniors, and we hope they will be able to live out their lives all together here at WoodHaven Rescue.
